Iran’s deputy FM Araqchi considers new US Treasury sanctions against the Geneva deal

Seyyed Abbas Araqchi Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs criticized the United States for placing further bans on yet another group of Iranian nationals and companies, despite the Geneva deal. Araqchi said that these new sanctions are a in contradiction to the vey essence of the deal reached between Iran and six world powers in Geneva.

In addition to other articles in the text of the deal which was agreed upon on the 24th of November 2013 and signed by the Foreign Minister of the 6 countries comprising the P5+1, the deal reads: “The U.S. Administration, acting consistent with the respective roles of the President and the Congress, will refrain from imposing new nuclear-related sanctions.”

Asked about Tehran’s reaction to the US Treasury decision to apply sanctions against more Iranian companies and individuals, he said that Iran is examining the situation in the aftermath of the fresh embargos. 

Araqchi is a member of Iran’s nuclear negotiation team.

The US Treasury added the names of 19  Iranian nationals and companies in Europe and Asia to the list of its sanctions last night.
